Or do they just LIKE shooting themselves in the foot?
So, it shouldn't be any surprise to anyone that IE7 released this last week. But, I discovered almost instantly that IT DOESN'T RUN ON WINDOWS 2000.
So, what does this mean to you the web developer? Well, first it means, that great instant adoption of IE7 isn't going to be as instant as we all thought. Not that bad in and of itself. But, what it really means is that about half of your users are doomed to run IE6 until they upgrade their operating system. Which means we STILL HAVE TO WRITE WEB SITES WITH IE6 HACKS in them.
OK. So, Microsoft has effectively pissed off the web development community generally. But, you may have noticed that FireFox 2.0 ALSO released this week. Guess what? It runs on Windows 2000. So, if you are a user still running Windows 2000 and you want cool new features. Don't wait for the big "push" from Microsoft. Go, get a copy of FireFox instead.
